Welcome to the Synthetic Humanities Lab

The lab investigates how artificial intelligence, games, and emerging media model the world and reshape human experience.

We treat AI systems not just as tools, but as media that organize perception, behavior, and possibility. Working across media theory, game and play studies, critical AI studies, science and technology studies, and computer science, the lab builds prototypes, games, and simulations that make complex technical systems intelligible and contestable.

Current projects include educational video games that make the inner workings of generative AI playable, experiments at the intersection of simulation and cinema, and speculative interfaces for learning with computers. Across these efforts, the Synthetic Humanities Lab serves as a bridge between humanities, arts, and computing disciplines at UTA, creating spaces where students and faculty can analyze, prototype, and reimagine the technologies that are training our attention and forming our futures.
